Kit Willow's"Devastation" AtLeaving Her Label

KIT WILLOW has spoken about her"devastation" after having left her label, Willow - something that came as a complete shock to the Australian designer. "I could never have imagined that what has happened would happen," Willow told us, from her home in Sydney. "It's devastating not to be involved in something that I started a decade ago, and something that I have nurtured and grown over the past 10 years. My family and beautiful friends
have been incredible, but of course it's been very difficult."

Other designers - including Roland
Mouret, John Galliano, Alessandro
Dell'Acqua, Jil Sander and Danielle
Issa - have lost the rights to use their
name to their controlling companies
in recent years, with many of them
speaking of the pain it caused them.
But, despite beginning what are set to
be protracted legal wrangles to resolve
the remaining contractual issues
between herself and her former
partner Apparel Group in the past few
weeks, Willow is already - tentatively
- looking to the future.
"A design-led fashion business is a
very different entity to other
companies," she said. "It has a heart
and soul, and has a very personal
relationship with the customer. For
me, designing is almost like being a
mother; so I always have the urge to
do it, to create something. I've taken a
lot of comfort from the fact that the
brand lies inside my heart, and
wherever I plant it next is where it
will grow."
