After being dropped from the Super Eagles Brazil 2014 World Cup team, the duo of Sunday Mba and Nnamdi Oduamadi have resorted to praying for the team since they can not play at the mundial.Coach Stephen Keshi had on Monday night dropped the duo alongside Victor Obinna, Ejike Uzoenyi, Daniel Akpeyi, Joel Obi and Nosa Igiebor from his 23-man squad.Mba, who missed the Nigeria, Scotland friendly no thanks to visa problem tweeted that he had accepted his fate, even as he pledged to support the team with prayers.
Hear him: “I have accepted my fate.Let’s all pray and wish the team a good outing in Brazil.”
Oduamadi on his part said there was nothing to worry over Keshi’s decision to drop him, declaring that he will remain focused and continue with his soccer career.
In his tweet, Oduamadi who had a good outing during last summer’s FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil scoring a hat rick against Tahiti stated: “If one dream should fall and break into pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again. Thank you LORD [for]everything.”
Mba, Oduamadi and the other five players dropped by Keshi are billed to leave the team’s USA camp today and head back home.
Meanwhile, Keshi had explained why he dropped the Africa Cup of Nations star, Sunday Mba from the final World Cup list.
In defending his choice of dropping the player, Keshi told FIFA.com that the midfielder had failed in recent times to live up to expectations as he has not shown enough desire to be part of the 23-man squad heading to Brazil.
“Mba’s lateness to camp contributed to his missing out also, he did not show the hunger, the fight we expected from him,” Keshi explained.
“We have only two and half weeks to prepare for the World Cup and he had not given us what we wanted. He was very relaxed and it was unlike him.”
Mba who scored the winning goal for Nigeria in the 2013 Nations Cup final against Burkina Faso, was late in joining the Super Eagles’ training in London last week due to visa hitch.
Keshi had admitted that it was a tough decision pruning down his players to 23.
“This was a very tough decision to make. I wish I could have taken all 30 of them to the World Cup.
“They have been with us all this time and come this far and I think it’s unfortunate that not everyone can make it.
“But we had to do what we had to do, and we had to do it without any sentiment. I have told them to be strong and to work harder.”
The Eagles are billed to play the United States on June 7 after which they will depart for Brazil where they are in Group F alongside Iran, Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
