Former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu has charged coach Stephen Keshi to brace up to the duties at hand and get the players in the best shape possible for the World Cup.
Chukwu’s call is coming on the heels of the Super Eagles loss to the USA in the team’s last international friendly that he was not bothered about the outcome of the game but on how the Nigerian side played.
“There are times you play well and still loss the game and there are times you play badly and win. My worry is over the way the boys played. From the defence to the attack, we were suspect and we showed no cohesion safe for when the duo of Victor Moses and Michael Uchegbo came in as substitutes and added bite to the attack.”
He said from what he saw of the team, there was still a lot to be done but insists that Keshi is up to the task and despite the time left to work on the players on what he wants them to do better. “The players are professionals who know what their jobs are and as such should follow instruction. I want to believe that the team can still be turned around before Nigeria’s first game against Iran.”
USA’s Jozy Altidore’s brace gave the United States a 2-1 win over Nigeria in a pre World Cup friendly played on Saturday evening in Jacksonville.
Altidore scored his first goal in 2014 for club or country just after the half-hour mark, tapping in Fabian Johnson’s cross, while he added a second after half-time to ensure the USA completed their FIFA World Cup preparations with three wins from as many games.
By contrast, Nigeria will head to Brazil having failed to win any of their pre-tournament friendlies with the loss at EverBank Field following draws with Scotland and Greece.
Victor Moses earned a penalty in the 86th minute, and converted for a consolation goal for Nigeria.
