Don’t judge Eagles with friendly matches

Minister of Sports and chairman National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Tamuno Danagogo, has urged Nigerians not to measure the performance of the Super Eagles at the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup with the results of the pretournament friendly matches, insisting that the team could still shock the world in Brazil.

Fielding questions from the sporting press at the weekend, the Honourable Minister revealed that he had thought the players would go full throttle in the match against Scotland while he was with them in London, but he was told not to rate the team with the matches since they were not competitive.
On the possibility of Super Eagles still winning the World Cup trophy as he had earlier charged the team, Dr. Danagogo quipped: “Coincidentally, I was physically present in London during the pretournament friendly encounter against Scotland and I used the match assess the reality of my expectations in the team winning the World Cup.”
“But when I watched them play, I did ask the coaching crew and the NFF president their feelings about my personal reservation for the team. I noticed that the coach was experimenting with the players to pick his final team. He experimented with the Scotland game. I also noticed that even the players were a bit very careful because they apparently don’t want to be injured before the World Cup
“I had thought they would go all out in full force but they told me not to use to friendly to judge them. They told me that the target is to get them ready for the World Cup.”
