She was classy and full of panache as she walked into the conference room of Vlisco office in Lagos. Monique Gieskes , Brand Protection Director, Vlisco Group, Netherland, recently flew into the country to kick-start the campaign against adulterated and fake Vlisco fabrics filtering into the Nigerian market. Her mission is to inform and educate customers about what to watch out for when purchasing authentic Vlisco Wax Hollandais.
“We want our customers to be able to distinguish the real from the fake Wax Hollandais . You can’t buy class. True class is real and genuine. With Vlisco you make an everlasting impression that is vibrant , expressive and authentic.” The encounter was also an opportunity to discover her favourite things. Excerpts:
What’s your favourite color?
It’s blue because since I was a little girl, my mum used to dress me in blue. Blue makes me feel comfortable. Vlisco uses a lot of blue.
Favourite food?
Cassava leaf. We call it kundu in the DRC where I come from. I also know in Nigeria, they cook cassava leaves.
Favorite holiday spot?
I love to spend my holidays in Miami,United States, by the sea.
Favourite climate?
I love tropical weather with lots of rain. In the DRC,we don’t have too much sun.
Ffavorite book?
At the moment I am reading a book entitled, The Congo. It’s very captivating and interesting.
Favorite leader?
Nelson Mandela. He was very inspiring and had the right attitude.
